How our sampling and production work

  • Initial consultation - discuss brand, structure ,RRP, sketches, necessary requirements & cost of development overview.
  • Tech / sketch packs are required for each style to be developed. This document must include all measurements which are needed by a pattern cutter & a machinist to successfully complete the garment plus all details of how the garment is finished & any other information which is important for your design.
  • At this stage we can create estimates for the cost of your 1st samples to give you a guide. This is a guide & we cannot be held to this estimate.
  • Fabrics & trims - these must be sourced at the time of design development & swatches provided to the pattern cutter. This helps ensure that the pattern cutter has taken into account any special properties of the fabric whilst making the patterns ie. stretch, drape, stiffness.
  • Pattern cutting - it is advisable to have a meeting with the pattern cutter to discuss your designs So that they are interpreted correctly. Pattern cutters work manually producing patterns on Paper or digitally on CAD systems. A copy of the tech pack is attached to the pattern envelope.
  • 1st Samples - the pattern is then cut out using your fabrics provided & stitched to complete.
  • Fit meeting - it is advisable to conduct a fit meeting with the pattern cutter & a model to assess The fit & finish of the samples. It is usual to have fit comments which are amended by the pattern cutter before a second round of sampling begins.
  • 2nd sample is cut & made up to check any amendments from the fit meeting.
  • 2nd Fit Meeting - the sample is then checked on the model to assess that the amendments have been successful & that the sample is ready to sign off for size grading & is ready for production.
  • Size grading - we would advise to do your research into the sizing of your market sector getting this right is so crucial to the success of your brand. A size specification chart will need to be created based on the approved sample. The size grading is then created on the CAD system.
  • Getting ready for production - once the pattern has been graded & the sample signed off for production. Please allow four weeks for production ( booked in advance ). Once the fabrics, trimmings & labels arrive along with the graded patterns on card we are ready to cut your order. A deposit of 30% of the invoice total is required before we start cutting.
